Bike Ōwairaka is for Mt Albert and Ōwairaka community members. They want to create a place to share information about cycling events, tips, call on others for support, and celebrate how awesome it is getting around on two wheels! This is for every kind of bike rider – lycra racers, commuters, cargo families, family riders. All welcome!

Liberty Church
Is an all-age, multicultural, Baptist church in the heart of Ōwairaka. We gather on Sundays at 10.30am, with programmes for children & youth. Small groups meet during the week and are the hub of deeper personal growth and relational connectedness. We warmly welcome all people – come along to a Sunday service or pop in for a chat and coffee during the week (Wed – Fri mornings).

Ōwairaka Friends of the School
Ōwairaka’s Friends of the School group organises events that bring the community together to raise money to fund additional learning experiences and resources for Ōwairaka students.
FOS raises funds in a number of ways, including sausage sizzles, Culture & Kai Night, auctions and quiz nights and the stall at the Cultural Festival.

Ōwairaka Sea Scouts
Ōwairaka Sea Scouts have been in Mt Albert since 1937. Offering a challenging and exciting programme, often combining with other local scout groups to gain added benefits through shared expertise. Scouts 9 to 15 years and Venturers 15 to 18 years. The space is also available for hire.

The Tūpuna Maunga Authority
The Tūpuna Maunga Authority is the statutory authority established under the Ngā Mana Whenua o Tāmaki Makaurau Collective Redress Act 2014 to govern the fourteen Tūpuna Maunga (ancestral mountains) of Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland. The Ōwairaka/ Ahi-kā-a-Rakataura maunga above Ōwairaka is one of these.
The Authority represents a new era in the governance and management of the Tūpuna Maunga, ensuring that Mana Whenua world views, priorities and strong living connections, and continued public access that all communities have with these special places, is woven into their unified and cohesive long term care.
Pest Free Ōwairaka
We are blessed in Mt Albert to have a tree-lined neighbourhood and our beautiful maunga which provides such a great habitat for ourselves as well as our native wildlife. However, our wildlife is under pressure from introduced species.
The goal is to rid Ōwairaka from the most damaging pest animals and plants mid-term, and the current focus is on rats. A group of volunteers started controlling rats on the top of Ōwairaka / Mt Albert jointly with the Tūpuna Maunga Authority. Order a subsidised rat trap online at:
Ngā Ringa o Te Auaunga Friends of Oakley Creek
Co-ordinated by the much-respected conservation champion Wendy John, they have been working to protect and restore the ecological health of central Auckland’s longest stream and its surrounding environment since 2004.
