Alan Wood Reserve and Kūkūwai

You will find entries all along Hendon Avenue. A perfect place for dog walkers. Enjoy a stroll alongside Oakley Creek, enter the shared bike path and walkways where you can meander through the wetlands before crossing the motorway on the magnificent Te Whitinga bridge to kick a ball or run the dog at Kūkūwai Park, then continue on to join up with Te Auaunga path where the kids can build confidence in the māra hūpara, or the pump track.


Murray Halberg Park

Found right in the heart of Ōwairaka, the park is home to Marist Rugby League Club and the Ōwairaka Sea Scouts. There is a great wee basketball court and an awesome playground.

Scouting is for girls and boys, building confidence, connection and community.

Active since 1936 you will find the Den at 1231a New North Road. Meeting times:

Keas (5-8 years): Thursday 5.30pm to 6.30pm.

Cubs (8-11 years): Wednesday 6.30pm to 8.00pm.

Scouts (11-14 years): Tuesday 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

Venturers (14-18 years): Thursday 7pm to 9pm.

Ōwairaka Park

Enter from Ōwairaka Avenue, Hendon Avenue or the path off Oakley Creek/Te Auaunga. The park has a basketball court, skate park, playground and an awesome flying fox that goes very fast! There are toilets, drinking fountains and paths that make riding a scooter easy to get from one end to the other. This is also where you will find the Ōwairaka Eco-Neighbourhood’s orchard where everyone is welcome to help out and enjoy the space.


Ōwairaka Parkrun

A free, fun, and friendly weekly 5k community event. Walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate – it’s up to you!
Every Saturday at 8am.The event takes place at Ōwairaka Park, 56-60 Ōwairaka Avenue. It’s free but you need to register before you first come along.

Ōwairaka / Te Ahi-kā-a-Rakataura. Mount Albert

This magnificent maunga is for everyone to enjoy, please treat it with respect. Kids can explore the paths for hours. The park is an off leash dog walking area except for some parts. Be sure to check out the signage. There are four pedestrian access points: Summit Drive (main entrance) Toroa Terrace, Mount Royal Avenue and La Veta Avenue.


Anderson Park

Enter from Preston Avenue and you’ll find the home of Mt Albert Ponsonby Football Club, 3 excellent tennis courts and a small playground. Join the football club, open to all ages, cheap fees and a social place to meet.

The mighty Marist Saints’ mission is to grow and unite our community by engaging and empowering our people to thrive both on and off the rugby league field. We are a family orientated club who focus on looking after all our members by providing opportunities to grow and develop skills for life in a fun and friendly environment. This strong family focus contributed to a proud history at Marist where there is an established reputation for very strong junior teams and a competitive senior team playing in the SAS Fox Memorial Premier Competition.
